What are cookies and browser storage?

Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser when you visit a website. They can be used to remember preferences, maintain a service, distinguish browsers or understand how a website is used.

Websites may also use browser-storage technologies such as localStorage. These technologies are not technically cookies, but they can perform similar functions by storing information in your browser.

In this policy, we explain both cookies and the browser storage used by Lofi Pomodoro.

How Lofi Pomodoro uses browser storage

Lofi Pomodoro uses essential browser storage and, only with your permission, optional analytics storage.

Essential browser storage

Essential browser storage is used to:

  • remember whether you accepted or rejected analytics;
  • preserve the technical state required to apply your choice;
  • prevent analytics from loading when permission has not been given;
  • support the correct operation of the consent system.

This storage is necessary to remember and respect your choice. It is not used for advertising.

Optional analytics storage

With your permission, Lofi Pomodoro uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and timer usage.

Analytics helps us understand, for example:

  • which public page was visited;
  • whether a Focus was started or completed;
  • how users progress through Focus, Break and Long break phases;
  • whether a user begins another Focus;
  • which timer mode was used;
  • whether a visitor arrived through a call to action in a blog article;
  • broad technical and acquisition information made available by Google Analytics.

We use this information to measure and improve Lofi Pomodoro. We do not use Google Analytics to show personalised advertising on Lofi Pomodoro.

Consent

Google Analytics is optional.

When you first visit Lofi Pomodoro, you can choose:

  • Reject analytics;
  • Allow analytics.

Google Analytics is not loaded and analytics cookies are not created before you allow analytics.

Rejecting analytics does not prevent you from using the timer, music, blog or other core features of Lofi Pomodoro.

Your choice is stored in your browser so that we can remember and apply it on later visits from the same browser.

Cookies used by Google Analytics

When analytics is allowed, Google Analytics may set the following first-party cookies:

The exact suffix of _ga_<container-id> depends on the Google Analytics property used by Lofi Pomodoro.

Browser settings, deletion, consent withdrawal or changes made by Google may shorten the actual lifetime of these cookies.

Lofi Pomodoro currently uses the following local browser-storage keys:

The measurement state may contain technical information such as:

  • tracking version;
  • timestamps;
  • first eligible landing path;
  • Focus counters;
  • cycle number;
  • temporary article and CTA attribution;
  • whether certain measurement events were already queued.

It does not intentionally contain:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • text entered by you;
  • account credentials;
  • payment information.

Lofi Pomodoro does not currently require an account to use the timer.

Google Analytics and network information

A connection to Google Analytics involves technical network information. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Network information may be used during collection to derive information such as approximate geographic location before the IP address is discarded.

Who uses the analytics information?

Analytics information is processed by:

  • Lofi Pomodoro, for product and usage analysis;
  • Google, as the provider of Google Analytics and related technical infrastructure.

Lofi Pomodoro uses Google Analytics 4 with measurement ID:

International data transfers

Google may process information in countries where Google or its subprocessors maintain facilities.

Where European data-protection law applies and information is transferred outside the European Economic Area, Google's applicable data-processing terms provide for recognised transfer mechanisms, which may include Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer solution.

How to change or withdraw your choice

You can change your analytics choice at any time.

Select Cookie settings from the footer of any Lofi Pomodoro page.

From Cookie settings, you can:

  • allow analytics;
  • reject analytics;
  • close the panel without changing your current choice.

Withdrawing consent:

  • prevents new analytics events from being sent;
  • disables Google Analytics for the current page;
  • removes or invalidates Lofi Pomodoro's local measurement and attribution state;
  • attempts to remove visible _ga and _ga_* cookies;
  • reloads the page so that analytics remains disabled.

Cookie removal is performed on a best-effort basis. Browser restrictions or the way a cookie was originally created may prevent a website from removing every cookie automatically. You can also delete cookies and site data using your browser settings.

Withdrawing consent does not delete information that may already have been processed by Google Analytics before withdrawal.

Browser controls

Most browsers allow you to:

  • view stored cookies;
  • delete cookies and local site data;
  • block some or all cookies;
  • clear storage when the browser closes;
  • control tracking protection.

Blocking all browser storage may prevent Lofi Pomodoro from remembering your analytics choice. The timer itself remains available without analytics.

Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when:

  • the cookies or browser-storage technologies change;
  • the purposes of analytics change;
  • a new provider is introduced;
  • legal or regulatory requirements change.

If a change materially affects the purposes of optional cookies or the third parties using them, we will update the information provided and request a new choice where required.
